On October 24, 2005, Rosa Louise Parks died of natural causes at the age of 92. Her funeral was held at Greater Grace Temple Church in Detroit on November 2, 2005. On October 27, 2005, city officials declared that the front seats of all buses would have black ribbons on them in honor of her until her funeral. After her funeral, they laid an American flag on her casket and took her to the cemetery. The chapel next to the cemetery was named after her. It was renamed the Rosa L. Parks Freedom Chapel.
